Welcome

Call to Worship

Today, we join Jesus in the final ascent to Jerusalem, knowing the depths we will descend on our journey through Holy Week.
Open the gates of righteousness so we may come to worship God!

We join the disciples in declaring that Jesus, riding on a donkey, is our Ruler, the One who will bring peace and salvation to all.
Open the gates of peace so we may come to worship God!

We join with the bystanders who questioned and wondered who Jesus really was and who feared the consequences of angering the powers that be.
Open the gates of truth so we may come to worship God!

The journey through Holy Week brings us face-to-face with the stark reality of sin and God’s faithfulness to save.
Open the gates of salvation so we may come to worship God, whose steadfast love never fails!

Psalm of the Day

Psalm 118: 1, 19-29

O give thanks to the LORD, for God is good; God’s steadfast love endures forever! Let Israel say:
God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Open the gates of righteousness to me, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.  This is the gate of the LORD; the righteous shall enter through it.
Thank you for answering me and becoming my salvation.

The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Save us, we beseech you, O LORD! O LORD, we beseech you, give us success!

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD. We bless you from the house of the LORD.
The LORD is God, and he has given us light. Bind the festal procession with branches up to the horns of the altar.

You are our God, and we will give thanks to you; you are our God; we will extol you.
O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Joys and Concerns and Prayers of the People with The Lord’s Prayer for Lent

Pastor KellyOn this day, we come into the presence of our God, praying with our Savior as he taught us to pray:
People: Our Parent in heaven, hallowed be your name; your Kin-dom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for yours is the Kin-dom and the power and the glory forever.

Liturgist: We join with Christians around the world as we say:
People: Yours is the Kin-dom and the power and the glory forever.

Pastor Kelly: We think that we are in charge, Lord, but we know that.
People: yours is the Kin-dom and the power and the glory forever.

Liturgist: We want things to go our way, Lord, but we know that
People: yours is the Kin-dom and the power and the glory forever.

Pastor Kelly: We think we know what we need, that we know what the world needs, but we know, Lord, that
People: yours is the Kin-dom, yours is the power, and yours is the glory

Liturgistforever and ever.
People: Forever and ever. Amen. ++
