📖 Join Us This Summer for a Study of Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman
New Summer Book Study: Fear Not – The Gospel of the Disinherited
Begins Tuesday, June 24
““It cannot be denied that too often the weight of the Christian movement has been on the side of the strong and the powerful and against the weak and oppressed—this, despite the gospel.”
”
This summer, we invite you to a transformational journey of faith, courage, and justice as we read Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman—an essential work that helped shape the theology of the Civil Rights Movement. Many of you may recall the book from our Sacred Ground study in 2023-2024.
Thurman asks a profound question: “What does the religion of Jesus say to those who stand with their backs against the wall?” He offers a vision of a Jesus who does not merely sympathize with the oppressed—but stands with them. It’s a gospel for the disinherited, the cast aside, the afraid—and one that calls all of us into deeper solidarity and sacred resistance.
This study will accompany our summer sermon series, “Fear Not: The Gospel of the Disinherited,” helping us explore the radical love and liberating power at the heart of Jesus’ message.
Join us for weekly conversations:
